Psychological Obsolescence and Subjective Remaining Life Expectancy are Predictors of Generativity in a Six-Year Longitudinal Study

Abstract In this research, we explore associations between (changes in) perceived generativity, subjective remaining life expectancy (SRLE), and psychological obsolescence in a longitudinal sample. We hypothesized higher SRLE weaker would be concomitants of generativity. also that generativity exhibit intraindividual fluctuation over time, which should relate to the respective concomitants. Using multilevel modeling, several were investigated. The sample consisted 518 German participants (aged 18–88 years) who took part at least two four measurement waves Ageing-as-Future online study spanning 6 years. There was no mean-level increase or decrease 6-year period. Despite absence linear time trends, individual still fluctuated considerably time. model showed average lower resulted Individual fluctuations those constructs coincided likewise, implying when increased decreased points, tended as well. significant quadratic, but age effects. findings suggest depends not only on chronological other time-related factors. Based such results, discuss implications for interventions future research.
